Urban Beach’s own Maikke Huvermann qualified for her first appearance in the PWA Double Elimination Winners’ Final at Bonaire World Cup, finishing 2nd after a thoroughly impressive performance in which she beat current PWA Freestyle Vice-World Champion (and fellow Dutch sailor) Arrianne Aukes.

The 16 year old freestyle windsurfer faced defending world champion (for several years in a row) Sarah-Quita Offring in the final, who put on a near flawless performance to win the competition. However it was Maaike who established herself as a force to contend with in the future, eliminating several of the big names from the event! Firstly Russian born Olya Raskina, then Norway’s Oda Johanne and Yoli de Brendt (Venezuela) before bagging her place in the final by claiming the biggest scalp of her career to date in the form of Arrianne Aukes. In a post from the PWA covering the event, read:

"Huvermann showed all the qualities - consistency, variation and style - required to be hugely successful and is only going to progress as a sailor from here on, making her not only a talent to keep a careful eye on over the remainder of the event, but also for years to come."

Congratulations Maaike!
