When most people think of adventure they think of jetting off to an exotic place somewhere, yet there are tons of adventures ranging from the explorative, through to highly charged adrenaline hits, right here in the UK.

 

To get your summer well and truly under way, here are the Urban Beach team’s favourite outdoor destinations around the UK.

 

1. Glamping- Burnicombe Farm- South Devon

Well we had to start close to home didn't we?! The 65 acres of Burnicombe farm, feature 40 pitch where you like spots, alongside 10 ready erected and fully furnished "glamping” bell tents as well as luxury Mongolian yurts, with clean eco-friendly facilities and communal cooking areas.

Situated on the doorstep of the gorgeous Teign Valley in the North East of Dartmoor, Burnicombe Farm is perfectly placed as a base camp to explore all South Devon has to offer. From the hunters path up to the granite colossus of Castle Drago, to the lush green, and wild woodland of Dartmoor itself, this area is famed for inspiring Alan Lee, Illustrator of several of Author J.R.R Tolkien’s works, including the centenary edition of ‘The Lord of the Rings’.

 

2. Surf/ Coasteering/ Surf Rafting- Newquay Surfing School- Cornwall

Experience the home of British surfing from the water! Get suited, booted and boarded for a day of wave riding, coasteering or surf rafting! With full equipment hire, beginner to advanced surfers can take the plunge into some of the most consisitent waves the country has to offer. Newquay Surfing School offers lessons provided by fully qualified surf instructors and lifeguards; Urban Beach brand ambassador and international Big Wave Surfer, Tom Butler will be on hand over the summer to offer his coaching skills as well.

 

3. Whitewater Rafting- National Whitewater Centre- North Wales

Take to the rapids in some of North Wales’ rugged terrain. Based just outside of Bala on the banks of the River Tryweryn, Frongoch, the National White Water Centre is set in the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.

Just some of the activities on offer are full rafting with grade 2-3 and 3-4 rapids, 2 person rafting and canyoning (an adventure on the rapids without a raft or paddle).

 

4. Zip –Line & High Rope- Sherwood Pines Forest Park- Nr Nottingham (Other centres Nationwide)

Set in the North of the Midlands, Sherwood Forest has got to be one of the most famous wooded areas in the country; not least because of the association with the Robin Hood legend. At the Go Ape Centre in The Sherwood Pines you can try your hand at riding one of the only tree top wires in the country, or get off the grid entirely with their new Forest segway experience, for a totally unique adventure!

 

5. Tandem Skydive - Nationwide

One for the full time adrenaline junkie! Throwing yourself out of a plane at 12,000ft might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re particularly daring, then skydiving is one activity that you don’t want to miss out on!

With sites all over the country, you will be attached (via harness) to an experienced instructor and kitted out head to toe, before being flown up to the appropriate height to begin a 7,000ft, 120mph free-fall followed by a 5,000ft parachute ride down to earth, taking in all the breath-taking scenery on the way down. A full safety briefing is provided and the responsibility of pulling the chord is left to the instructor.

Experienced skydivers (or those with serious adrenaline issues) might want to check out the 15,000ft experience instead (Honiton only).

 

6. Flyboarding- Nationwide

Unleash your inner Marty McFly with this adrenaline charged watery adventure! A full briefing and safety demonstration is provided before you don the water jet boots (flyboard) and arm pads that allow you to reach heights of up to 10m (depending on ability) and hit the water for up to 30 minutes for a new and totally unique water sports experience!

 

7. Bungee Jump- Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge

Harness up and still your jangling nerves as you bungee jump off of the largest bridge of its kind in the world! Built in 1911 and spanning the river Tees Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge is the perfect place to test your mettle against gravity; with a sheer drop of 160ft the rush will be intense, terrifying and ultimately rewarding! A full safety briefing and harness fitting (including weigh in) comes as part of the package.

 

8. Caving- Yorkshire Dales- North Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a treasure trove of adventure! With the largest moorland in the country (North Yorkshire Moors) and some of the country’s finest surf outside of Devon and Cornwall on its North East Coast, there’s plenty to get involved with; but it’s underneath the beautiful rolling Dales that you’ll find the most extensive cave network in the UK! Discover Gaping Gill, one of many landmarks, with a vertical shaft descent of 105m leading to a chamber large enough to fit St. Paul's Cathedral complete with the tallest unbroken waterfall in England!
